2022 so far

Happy new year's everyone following this project!

FYI I want to share a new major demo update is forthcoming, you can expect it (hopefully) in March or April. Right now the work that had to be done to connect parts of Melanat together (without loading hiccups) is completed, and so I can think about filling out the second map for this next demo/update.

Hopefully this map won't take me as long as before, since with any luck it will reuse a lot of the same art from the first map, and I've also spent a good chunk of my time away from this project working on a new automatic art system for Sword of Moonlight that removes a lot of tedious steps from the process and significantly lowers the barrier for making little fixes here and there.

Apart from art, my goals for a new demo are 1) attach sounds to the monsters who are still missing them, and hopefully some environmental sounds which KFII is known best for! 2) improve behavior patterns for the flying and swimming monsters, and hopefully make some of the monsters seem a little more intelligent, vis-a-vis things like plowing directly into walls! 3) lastly, perhaps fine-grained transparency sorting, to remove some odd inside-out glitches in places like the waterfall scene.

You can expect a lot of familiar sights in the second map, but it's still going to be a tech demo, mainly demonstrating map stitching capability.

Thanks for hanging in here! I'm sorry this takes so long to carry out. I try to look at it like once it's done it's done forever, digital software doesn't feel entropy as long as we all do our part to archive it and remember it.

Hey there, I just stumbled onto this project after dusting off my KF2 disc and giving it a spin amidst all the Elden Ring hype.
It didn't seem like you caught much traction on GameFAQs but I'd imagine there are other Souls-communities that would love to hear about this and watch as it develops.
Anyways keep up the good work, and outstanding job so far!

Sure, by all means please spread the news. I do think most are aware of it (Sword of Moonlight) probably. The Dark Souls games do pull a lot of people into King's Field orbit, but I don't believe it's taken seriously after that. It's funny how much Souls fans revere From Software, but don't give thought to its Moonlight Sword legend that's occupied the space were other companies might position a company mascot.

I'm really focused on making something very pure here. It's not a fighting game. I see it as more an art series.

Edited: Just for everyone, while I'm here posting, the demo this dev-blog post is heralding is coming along. I hope it's ready in this month (April) I'm really busting my hump. I have a feeling it will be a squeaker if so, and I'll take some time off to polish the demo and update it with a patch later in the year. It's shaping up really well and the color is very good. (I was recently forced to reckon with the lighting to factor the bright lights over Nola's house into what I had so far. I realized the default color in most areas has reduced contrast, and that's part of the reason KFII can seem chalky, but I was able to correct for this so it will be more vibrant like KF.)

Thanks for weighing and offering encouragement. I really appreciate it!
